“Idea Worth Rallying Around®”

Every brand we build starts with an Idea Worth Rallying Around®: the single, galvanizing belief that aligns your team, inspires your customers and guides every decision that follows.

(01) Project
Overview

Security infrastructure for AI coding agents.

As more developer teams integrate coding agents into their workflow, agentic AI is gaining considerable autonomy within the enterprise. But are they worthy of trust? Bluebear, founded in 2025 by security veterans from PerimeterX (now HUMAN), has engineered an end-to-end security platform that keeps agents aligned to user intent. As they prepared for their first major public moment, an open source tool release ahead of Series A funding, their leadership team approached Motto® to translate their technical breakthroughs into a brand that would inspire trust.

(02) Challenge

Making autonomy feel safe.

As AI coding agents become more autonomous, enterprises face a growing tension between freedom and control. Developers want speed and flexibility, while security leaders need visibility and confidence. As a new company in an emerging category, Bluebear needed to earn the trust of both audiences while establishing a distinct position in the cybersecurity market. The opportunity was to make security feel like an enabler of AI autonomy, rather than another layer of constraint.

(03) Method
/ Immersion

Finding possibility in security.

We immersed ourselves in Bluebear’s technology, vision, audiences, and ambitions for the agentic future. One idea quickly became clear: greater autonomy requires greater trust. That insight reframed Bluebear’s role from protecting organizations against what AI agents might do to giving them the confidence to explore what agents could make possible. It became the strategic foundation for a more optimistic kind of security brand and ultimately Safe to Imagine.

(04) Method
/ Brand Strategy

Take note of the future.

“The joy of learning” inspired our strategic, verbal, and creative work. Instead of focusing solely on the product tech and features, as incredible as they are, we connected Goodnotes to this deeper meaning which gives the brand more emotional territory to play in. Our strategy led to a clear understanding of Goodnotes’ central ‘Sage’ archetype, helping to define the brand and lay the foundation for the identity. The outcome was a big Idea Worth Rallying Around® that powerfully united internal and outward-facing audiences and activities.

(05) Method
/ Verbal Identity

Giving security a more optimistic voice.

We created a voice that brings optimism and imagination to a category dominated by risk and restraint. Built around three Voice Pillars, Optimistic, Solid, and Imaginative, Bluebear speaks with enough authority to earn the confidence of security leaders and enough personality to connect with developers. Across the narrative, messaging, and playful product names like Baloo and BlueDen, the language continually brings the conversation back to what security makes possible.

(06) Method
/ Visual Identity

A world where safety creates space to imagine.

The visual identity brings Bluebear’s central tension between freedom and control to life. Dreamlike landscapes, shifting light, soft gradients, and atmospheric imagery evoke a sense of possibility, while coded graphics and Swiss-inspired typography introduce structure and technical rigor. A bear paw-inspired symbol gives the brand an ownable signature, while blue, lilac, and fiery orange create a distinctive palette for a security company built on optimism.
