Behind the Big Idea: Nomina

A company at the center of onchain momentum

Omni Network (rebranded to Nomina) is a fast-rising force in the blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. With headquarters in New York and a globally distributed engineering team, the company has carved out an influential role in shaping the onchain economy.

Its infrastructure products—including a cross-chain network that enables near-instant transactions and developer tools like SolverNet SDK—have processed over 7.5 million transactions. Just as importantly, Omni has cultivated a passionate, global community. With an enormous following across X, Telegram, and Discord, the company has become a thought leader in DeFi, known as much for its bold ideas as its technical innovations.

As onchain markets matured, the company saw the need to expand beyond infrastructure and create a unified trading platform for frontrunners in global finance. That leap required a complete repositioning with a new name, messaging, and brand expression aligned with its future ambitions.

The challenge: building while becoming

Still in the early stages of product development, the company has been moving quickly, experimenting with different ideas, testing new opportunities, and adapting to a rapidly evolving market. This pace of innovation is essential, but it also created challenges for the brand. Communications lagged behind product shifts, making it harder to tell a clear, consistent story to audiences.

Several challenges shaped the brief:

  • Rapid experimentation: New product directions often outpaced messaging, leaving the brand without a single, steady narrative.
  • Community expectations: Early supporters looked for clarity about the company’s long-term vision and impact.
  • A crowded name: The previous identity was shared across industries from crypto to hospitality, making it difficult to stand on its own.
  • A growth-focused team: With most of the company’s energy directed toward product and market traction, brand had not yet been developed with the same rigor.

We needed to build a strategic foundation strong enough to hold ambitious growth and flexible enough to evolve as the company matured.

From Omni to Nomina

The company’s original name, Omni, had served its purpose in the early days. Conceptually, it made sense: Omni gets you everywhere. But as the company grew, a challenge emerged: it couldn’t be owned. The word “Omni” was everywhere — from crypto projects and AI platforms, to hotels and household products. In a world where clarity and distinctiveness are strategic assets, Omni risked being diluted by association.

The company needed a name they could own, and after an extensive exploration of directions, one contender rose above the rest: Nomina.

The transition from Omni to Nomina carries a sense of continuity. Both names share similar letters and cadence, creating a bridge from the company’s past to its future. But where Omni blended in, Nomina steps out with distinction.

The Latin root — meaning “names” or “to name” — highlights the importance of identity, ownership, sovereignty, and being counted.

Brand strategy: freedom is the fight

Beneath the naming problem lay deeper questions: what does this company do and what does it stand for?

As a company in its early chapter, testing, iterating, and pushing toward product-market fit is a natural part of pioneering in a fast-moving industry. What has remained constant is the founders’ belief that financial sovereignty is one of the highest forms of freedom.

This belief anchors the brand to empower people everywhere with equal access to the financial system.

The strategy reframed Nomina not as another crypto project but as a platform with values. Its positioning shifted from speculative hype to real-world impact: proof that crypto can deliver tangible benefits to individuals and institutions alike.

At the heart of this strategy is a big Idea Worth Rallying Around®: “All In.”

“All In” reflects a double commitment. Internally, it is a demand for relentless focus — a culture of total conviction in building a better future. Externally, it is a call to audiences: builders, investors, and users who want to bet fully on a future of open finance. It signals decisiveness, courage, and commitment in a category often clouded by half-measures.

Audiences: who we’re rallying

The strategy identified two primary audience archetypes:

  • Dario (The Conviction Holder): an early mover who believes in crypto’s potential as a path to sovereignty. He is already invested, looking for infrastructure partners with staying power. For him, Nomina must signal credibility — a brand that looks like it will endure.
  • Leyla (The Onchain Explorer): ambitious, curious, and hungry for opportunity, but blocked by technical friction. She wants access, clarity, and confidence. For her, Nomina must signal simplicity and empowerment — lowering the barriers to participation without diluting potential.

Together, these personas illuminate the brand’s dual challenge: to reassure the sophisticated while inviting the curious. Nomina’s job is to be both the serious backbone and the approachable on-ramp.

Verbal identity: a voice that stands apart

In crypto, voice is strategy. The category is notorious for hype, jargon, and over-promising. Projects often oscillate between hyper-technical and hyperbolic. Nomina needed a voice that could rise above both.

Motto defined three pillars for Nomina’s voice:

  • Driven: clarity and conviction without noise. Messages are precise, outcome-oriented, and confident.
  • Optimistic: hopeful without naiveté. Tone is energetic but grounded, looking toward possibility while acknowledging reality.
  • Approachable: human, not elitist. It avoids gatekeeping language, instead inviting participation.

Supporting this voice is a messaging kit that provides consistency across communications, from website copy to investor decks, ensuring the voice is as distinctive as the visuals.

The result is a brand that sounds as intentional as it looks. Where competitors often over-explain the plumbing of their technology, Nomina’s voice centers on outcomes. It reframes complexity into clarity.

Visual + verbal cohesion

The brand’s visual identity was designed with the same principles as its verbal identity: clarity, precision, and momentum.

During workshops, leadership described wanting a brand that felt “clean, professional, and pragmatic” while still demonstrating fluency in crypto culture. They rejected overly playful aesthetics and resisted the trend toward institutional sameness. Instead, they gravitated toward imagery of straight lines, focal points, and momentum — a design language that conveyed cutting through complexity with precision.

The synergy between verbal and visual creates a holistic system:

  • Nomina the name: precise and authoritative.
  • Voice: driven, optimistic, approachable.
  • Visuals: momentum, clarity, depth.

Together, they position Nomina as a trustworthy brand for the next wave of onchain adoption.

Activation: going all in

A brand is not theory. It must live in the world. For Nomina, activation focused on rebuilding trust with a skeptical audience and signaling clarity where confusion had reigned.

  • Community reset: Discord and Telegram, once neglected, became arenas for direct engagement. Staff committed to showing progress transparently, celebrating users, and rebuilding credibility.
  • X as the rallying point: In crypto, Twitter is where narratives are won or lost. Nomina planned coordinated campaigns to tease, launch, and follow up on integrations, always tying back to the “All In” narrative.
  • Token migration: A delicate but symbolic transition, where the new identity was paired with a Binance listing — a moment to announce that the company had leveled up.
  • Narrative clarity: Instead of scattered announcements, Nomina aligned all messaging to the Idea Worth Rallying Around®. Every activation reinforced the same story: this is the infrastructure you can bet on fully.

The activation is a way to show audiences, “We’ve put our flag in the ground. Join us.”
